What is an Apostille ?
A customized certificate that is issued by the Secretary of State is simply known by the word “apostille.” Your original document is given an apostille to confirm that it is legitimate and authentic so that it will be recognized by one of the other nations that are signatories to the Hague Apostille Convention. Apostilles can be issued in the US by all 50 states as well as the federal government (US Department of State – Office of Authentication).

An apostille is necessary for all Hague Convention signatories. The Hague Convention, commonly referred to as the Apostille Convention or Apostille Treaty, is a global agreement that does away with the requirement for secondary certification on some official documents.
